Visual Elements: 2D Foundations A beginning art & design class required for all first year students. We experimented with drawing, painting, printmaking, photography and graphic design. Students learned elements and principles of design and how to work with grayscales, color, composition, create a series, write an artist statement, present ideas, documentation tactics, curatorial skills & critique methods.
Intermedia-Art & Ecology This studio-based, transdisciplinary seminar introduces conceptual and theoretical concerns within the context of contemporary creative practice. Topics explored include appropriation, curation, collaboration, relational practices, and deconstruction. Through projects, critiques, lectures on contemporary art and ideas, discussions of readings, research and writing, visiting artists, and field trips, students produce studio work utilizing conceptual strategies tied to diverse roles that artists play within contemporary art and creative practice.
Intermedia -Art & Context Facilitated readings & discussion as well as lectures around themes of Appropriation, Curation and Collaboration in Contemporary Art & Theory.
Physical Exhibitions an interactive design course for all majors. Class includes field trips, guest artists, pitching projects and designing posters, ad campaigns, leading exercises and designing space. (with lead teacher Glen Helfand)
Materials & Methods
an upper division painting course exploring how to use different methods and materials within the field of painting. Included acrylic gel mediums, photo-transfers, gilding, plein air painting, glazing, canvas building and resin pours. (with lead teacher: Bryan Keith Thomas)
Painting 1 a beginning painting class open to all majors. Students learned how to stretch their own canvas, create a series, work with color, composition, work from life and scale their work up. (with lead teacher Victoria Wagner)
